The Food Resource Center (FRC) has moved from the Walker Fieldhouse to a new location in West Hall 110. This new location allows for them to have a larger supply of food for people, a dining area and a more central location for students. On Thursday, Sept. 8 during convo hour, the FRC held its official open house with food provided by Chowgirls Catering. The event was a collaboration with Feed Your Brain and the Wesley Center.
The FRC is open to any staff member or student regardless of financial situation. The partners of the FRC are Trader Joe’s, Minnesota Central Kitchen, Good in the ‘Hood, Panera Bread and TC Food Justice.
Food Resource Center Coordinator from AmeriCorps and Hamline ‘22 graduate Lexi Borgesen is looking forward to the new location and her new role. “Super excited for the new space, I think it’s in a much more central location [that will be] more accessible for students.” Borgesen said.
Their frozen meals, as well as all of the foods available, change each week and they always have vegetarian or vegan options for students. They provide a microwave, plates and utensils for visitors to use. They are also in the process of setting up a TV for people to use when in the center.
Along with the food provided, visitors to the event had the opportunity to go shopping in the center. There was a giveaway of a charcuterie board set and three sets of pots and pans the attendees could win in a drawing.
