President Miller delivered a message of empowerment to Pipers at her final convocation address as she welcomed the incoming class of 2023. The ceremony on the Old Main commons was the last matriculation ceremony Miller will perform at Hamline after announcing her retirement last spring.
Miller’s message for incoming students and the entire Piper community emphasized the strength in embracing diversity.
“Here at Hamline we celebrate the differences that define us, that connect us; all things that exemplify what it means to take the lead,” Miller said. “We are living in interesting times. What role will you play in creating the narrative of our time?”
Alongside Interim Provost Andy Rundquist, Chaplain Kelly Figueroa-Ray and Dean of Students Patti Klein-Kersten, President Miller addressed the Hamline community at the official kick-off of the 2023-24 school year.
“This is your time to grow, to explore, to take risks in a safe environment,” Miller said, “to learn about yourself, but more importantly to be yourself.”
