The regular season brought in success to the Women’s Hockey program all season long, with the Pipers being on the national poll for the better part of the season. The program will look to take its next steps forward in the coming winter.
Head Coach and former Olympian Whitney Colbert entered her third year with the program and brought them back as the national powerhouse they were not too long ago.
The Pipers finished the year with a commanding 18–8 record, with only two losses on the road during the entirety of the season.
The team boasted a dominant offense that earned them many key victories throughout the season. As the season has now completed the Pipers officially scored twice as many goals as they allowed this season (90–45). On average the Pipers scored 1.8 more goals per game than opponents whilst also outshooting them 32.8–19.3 per game.
The goaltending also displayed a strong season, with the three goaltenders collectively stopping .912 percent of shots faced this season, over 20 points higher than their opponents.
The Pipers also turned around in conference performances this season going 13–5 compared to 8–9–1 the year prior. This however has not been the most successful stint in recent memory, as just prior to the COVID-19 shutdown, the Pipers nearly won a national championship, falling in the final game to Plattsburgh State in 2019.
Colbert’s knowledge and experience of the game has helped her expedite the program’s climb back to the top of the division three hockey world. The future looks as promising as ever for the Pipers despite an abrupt end to the season.
