North St. Paul said goodbye to summer on Saturday, Sept. 14, with its vibrant Autumn Arts Festival. The event brought together a large crowd eager to embrace the incoming season while enjoying a day filled with creativity, culture and community spirit. Art vendor booths filled the park, exhibiting an array of handmade goods, allowing attendees to appreciate and own a piece of local talent.
The festival was a treasure trove of handcrafted pottery, jewelry and more, offering a truly astounding variety. The “Let’s Get Knotty” booth stood out, showcasing a delightful array of crocheted creations, from kittens to Pokémon characters. Another vendor that caught the eye was Wildfair Art, with their unique rings made from coins and beautifully carved wooden pens.
The event focused on more than just the vendors. Live performances infused the atmosphere throughout the day with music, dance and theatrical performances, maintaining a lively and celebratory ambiance. Local musicians and performers, like a steel drum band and Irish dancers, displayed their skills, attracting attendees of all ages to savor the joyful sounds of the occasion.
The Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre was a standout performer, not just for their dynamic performances but for their inclusive spirit. Welcoming all ages and abilities, they showcased the passion and precision of Flamenco dance, inviting the audience to experience the rhythm and emotion that define this art form. Their message, “Baila con nosotros” (Dance with us), resonated deeply, reflecting their commitment to sharing their craft with the community and encouraging everyone to join the dance.
Food trucks enhanced the festival’s appeal by providing a diverse selection of delectable treats. There was something to satisfy every taste, from freshly prepared warm donuts to savory potstickers. Attendees strolled from one food truck to another, holding art in one hand and snacks in the other, taking advantage of the perfect chance to explore the local arts scene while enjoying the finest flavors offered by the community.
The Gray Duck Concessions truck was a favorite at the festival. It served gluten-free mini donuts with topping options like s’mores, birthday cake and maple bacon. The truck also offered drinks such as iced caramel apple cider to really get guests in an autumn mindset.
For those who prefer something more savory, Long Thai Street Food’s truck served up some mouth-watering bites, including crispy spring rolls, yellow chicken curry and fried rice. Amazing Momo was another truck that drew a large crowd with its potstickers, which you could smell throughout the park.
The Autumn Arts Festival was more than just an opportunity to buy art; it was a gathering point for the St. Paul community, creating a sense of togetherness as neighbors came out to support local artists and enjoy the festive atmosphere. It served as a fitting farewell to summer and a warm welcome to autumn, leaving everyone in high spirits as they look forward to the coming season.
