Following a dismal 1–13–2 season, scoring in only three games the Piper’s had nowhere to go but up heading into the start of the 2024 campaign.
The start of the season has brought in a new found energy where the program currently sits at 3–3 with four games left before the end of the month.
The season kicked off at home where the Piper’s hosted Whitworth, where they were only able to notch one goal in the second thanks to first year Christin Broyles. On the other side junior Kylee Russell scored a hat-trick for the Pirates.
Thankfully the Piper’s bounced right back with a 5–1 blowout win over Minnesota-Morris. Fifth year Maya Dempsey led the Piper’s scoring in the match with goals in the 49th and 85th minute. First year Addyson Barrett, sophomore Ellie Nhean and Broyles all scored a goal a piece as well in the victory.
Two days later the Piper’s came back to Pat Paterson and fell 0–3 against UW-Eau Claire then winning back to back games.
Northwestern (Minn.) traveled into Saint Paul on September 7, where the Piper’s left with a 3–1 victory over the Eagles. Barrett notched her second goal of the year early on in the seventh minute of the game along with two more goals by ageless wonder Maya Dempsey in the 76th and 84th.
Despite the outcome the Piper’s were heavily outshot in the match with 15 shots compared to 24 from the Eagles.
The next week the Piper’s defeated North Central (Minn.) 5–0 on 9/11 to honor those who fell over in Minneapolis. First year Kayla Ramirez opened up the scoring party in the 37th minute, with senior Sydney Thompson, first year Alexi Schneider, first year Alexis Geary and Nhean also scoring.
Last Saturday the program traveled down to Iowa to face off against Central Iowa where they were not able to get anything going on the offensive side.
The Piper’s will be back in action on Wednesday, September 18 where they will travel to the other side of the Mississippi to face off against a familiar foe in Augsburg.
