Gritty Not Pretty
Women’s soccer ready to defend “Pat Pettie” again St. Mary’s.
Kudos to the Women’s 2017 Soccer team this sunny fall season, who conquered the undefeated St. Thomas Tommies on September 20 with a thrilling win of 1-0. The new head Women’s Soccer coach, Emily Cripe, feels extremely lucky to be here and working with this team. Cripe said, “we take each game at a time, expecting difficulty within each of the games, with the MIAC conference games being the most important.” In anticipation for the homecoming game on October 14 against St. Mary’s, Cripe said, “we are excited to protect “Pat Pattie,” the team’s pet name for their field. Cripe also mentions that the team “creates an intention before each game; for example, before St. Thomas, we decided on ‘gritty not pretty’.” Cripe mentioned that during the St. Thomas game the girls “killed it, executing the game plan perfectly.” Cripe encourages the girls to “keep grinding.”
Melanie Hopkins, first-year soccer player and the Oracle’s Design Assistant, said, “the team is doing well: harder to keep up as a first-year, but it’s really exciting to have such a good coach and defeating St. Thomas.” Hopkins said, “The goal that was scored against St. Thomas caused a roar of excitement and cheers from the crowd,” making it her favorite memory so far. “Pat Pattie” is the place to be at 3 p.m. on Saturday October 14. Bring the homecoming celebration and remind the girls to “keep grinding” for a thrilling soccer game.
