You know that feeling of pure disappointment when you start a show only to learn that it was cancelled before it even ended? Well, welcome to the club because it’s happened to all of us. With every TV series out there that has been completely finished, it feels as if there are ten times as many that have been canceled, whether that be without warning or it’s decided that the season that was just released will be the last, even though it was promised to have more seasons than what it’s ending on.
The cancellation of a show can feel like a personal loss sometimes, after investing so much time in it. While there have been incidents where shows were supposed to be canceled, fans made it their mission to keep them running. This has happened with shows like “Star Trek,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Futurama,” but unfortunately, this can’t be the case for them all. Here are five TV shows that were cancelled but never forgotten.
“The Society” (2019):
Cancelled after just one season due to problems with production during COVID-19, “The Society” is a show about a group of teens who come back from a class trip and discover their town is completely empty without any trace of where everyone went. Fans of the show were disappointed that they would never find out what happened to the teens and how they ended up where they did.
“I Am Not Okay With This” (2020):
“I Am Not Okay With This” is a coming-of-age supernatural show that was supposed to be a two season show and was renewed by Netflix, but was cancelled unexpectedly in August following the release of the first season due to financial constraints from the pandemic. The show ended up on a huge cliffhanger where we were supposed to learn who the dark figure that followed the main character throughout the show was in the next season, but viewers will never know due to the cancellation.
“My Babysitter’s a Vampire” (2011-2012):
This well known Canadian show that aired on Disney Channel is about a high school freshman finding out that his babysitter is a vampire and his adventures after finding out. “My Babysitter’s a Vampire” was cancelled after its second season, due to low ratings in Canada, despite how mad and frustrated fans were that the show ended with a massive explosion, leaving the fate of the characters unknown.
“Hannibal” (2013-2015):
Even with an abundance of critical acclaim, Hannibal was cancelled after only three seasons, due to low ratings on the NBC network. The low ratings were believed to be because of the number of people opting to watch via pirating sites instead of the NBC channel. Years after the show had ended, though, Bryan Fuller, the director and producer of the show, as well as the cast, fueled fans with hope of a possible new season, which those fans still hold on to.
“Julie and the Phantoms” (2020):
After gaining fans fast after the release of season one, audience members were devastated to find out that Netflix did not plan on renewing the show. “Julie and the Phantoms” is a show about a teenage girl who accidentally summoned a dead boy band by playing music, had further plans for more seasons, and fans were anxious to learn what happened to the ghosts at the end of the season finale. Since the show was cancelled, there have been a few teases about another platform picking it up and having another season, but for now, fans must desperately wait for something that may never even come.
These shows and the hundreds of others may have been cancelled, but deep down, they are never forgotten.
