Did this year’s events succeed in encouraging teamwork?

The seventh annual Office Olympics was held in Walker Fieldhouse between eight student employee teams. The events this year included a trash bag blow-up contest as well as a paper-throwing competition.

The Gold Medal, went to “The Account Ants”, a student employee team with various department members including workers from the C-Store, Academic Advising, and Graduate Admissions.

The second place went to “Guardians of the Event Galaxy”, the team from Space Management, and the third place to “Junk Mail” from Mail services.

Jessica Nordseth, a sophomore on the Safety and Security team, said that this year’s games were especially fun. This was her second year in the games, and she plans to participate again in the next Office Olympics.

“[This year’s events] were a great way to all work together,” she said. “It’s better when teamwork is part of the games.”

Her enjoyment seemed to indicate that Human Resources was successful in its goal to support camaraderie between coworkers.

“They should always do this,” said Jen Berg, a senior on the “Anderson Avengers” team of Anderson Front Desk workers. She also returned to the games for a second time. “I like [this year’s events] much better,” she said, agreeing with Nordseth’s assertion that the games are better when the focus is teamwork.

Indeed, a lot of people seemed more concerned with cheering for their teams during the fast-paced games. Loud cheers, encouraging words, and team names or themes were all used to unify teams as they competed.
