‘Inferno’ is a new club on campus, Faculty advisor Richard Pelster-Wiebe, the Head of the Creative Writing Department, describes it as “like a well of fire, it is always moving, shifting.”
As people trickle into the house on Thursday, Sept. 29 an energetic game of ‘Uno’ is started and grows with each new person arriving.
Once a month, a group of creatives gather in the Creative Writing house on Englewood Ave, what they do depends on who shows up. There can be board games, live music or poetry readings.
Along with Uno, this first meeting brought a game of ‘Business Walrus’ and then live music performed by senior August Crain . The night continued with Pizza Luce, games, readings and it ended with those who were still there going to see the almost full moon.
Richard Pelster-Wiebe encourages students to have the creative freedom to do whatever they want with this collective. Anything is possible and he is only here to facilitate and provide a space for creativity and community building.
The open nature of the collective means that as of now, there is no board or designated leader.
“It is an organic collective that is interested in community and creativity.” Pelster-Wiebe writes in an email.
Ideas that have been put forward for the collective to do have included screenings, poetry readings, field trips to theater productions and writing workshops. But they are open to any ideas for what this organization can become.
While currently the collective is made up of many Creative Writing majors, Pelster-Wiebe encourages anyone to join if they are interested.
There is no official Inferno email as of now, but those who are interested in info about the organization can email rpelsterwiebe01@hamline.edu to be added to the email list.
