The Piper’s have picked up right where they left off following their best season since 2017, going undefeated through the first week of their season with an impressive 4–0.
On Aug. 30 the offseason officially came to an end for the Pipers as they traveled up to UW-Stout and left with a convincing 2–0 victory.
The men’s soccer team’s win was led by a dominant effort by the offense, outshooting the Blue Devils 21-2 with 11 of those being on goal. Junior Rigoberto Arellano opened up the scoring with his first career goal in the 20th minute thanks to an assist from senior Jessie Juarez. Later in the first half, the Pipers scored once again thanks to sophomore Ryder Tomlinson-Sterud in the 44th minute.
Later that weekend in the season’s home opener, the Pipers blew Northland College out of the water 6–0. Hamline put up 41 shots compared to Northland’s 4 with 21 being on goal. Tomlinson-Sterud led the scoring with two goals less than 10 minutes apart in the first half.
The next match was a nail-biter on the road down in Cedar Rapids against Coe College, where the Pipers left with a 3–2 victory thanks to a late goal by first-year Jarod Timlin in the 76th minute. The Piper’s led for the majority of the game after a goal by first-year Ricky Kwabena-Yawson in the 38th minute.
This lead was held until the 72nd minute when Dylan Pagel for the Kohawks to tie the game at 2-2. The Pipers left with a 3–2 victory thanks to a late goal by Timlin in the 76th minute.
Then on Friday Hamline had its largest victory of the season so far, with an 8–0 victory over Minnesota Morris at Pat Paterson Field. Every goal scored in the match was by a first-year, highlighted by Kwabena-Yawson who scored a hat-trick in the 53rd minute.
The Piper’s will undergo an intense stretch of six games in the next week, facing off against Buena Vista (3–0), UW-Stevens Point at home (1–0–2), at North Central (1–1), at Augsburg (2–1–1), Saint John’s at home (1–2) and Lawerence University at home (0–2–1).
Following this stretch begins the gauntlet of conference play, with 10 of the 12 remaining games being scheduled against MIAC opponents.
