The library is more than just a quiet place to cram for exams. To me, it is a reflection of who we are, or at least who I think you are at a quick glance. And, let’s face it, the library fills our need to procrastinate while pretending to be productive. So if you have ever wondered what your vibe is based on your seat, let us find out.
The window seat: You were originally here to study but you were quickly distracted by your own thoughts. You have your laptop open, but the snow and the soft light of the lamps outside have you in a daydream. You are probably listening to something in the background while you stare at nothing in particular, letting your thoughts wander.
Vibe: Beabadoobee fan who romanticizes everything.
Back corner: If you have found a place to tuck yourself in the back, you are looking for as little human contact as possible, which I completely agree with. If it was not for the faint rustle of your snack wrappers (yes, we all hear them), we would barely know you were there. Your bag is either really heavy or light, no inbetween. You are locked in, or at least trying to be. Every so often you will look up if anyone gets close.
Vibe: Do not perceive me. (sorry)
Right in the middle: You are not worried about privacy. Whether you thrive off seeing other people work and that motivates you, or if you simply enjoy the comfort of knowing you are suffering alongside others, you thrive in the center. Props to you.
Vibe: Extrovert.
Group table: If you are alone and are using an entire table, you are probably hated by those who actually need the table. But hey, you probably do not care. If you are actually with a group, some of you are probably late or missing. Every couple minutes someone is trying to ‘take a break’ to scroll on TikTok or grab a snack. One person is trying to keep everyone on task, but is being interrupted by someone bringing up a joke or story from the week before. At least you are having a good time.Vibe: Productivity? Questionable.Personally, I think I fall somewhere between the window seat and the back corner. I like to think I am deep in thought, staring out at the rain, listening to my playlist, contemplating life—but really, I’m probably just zoning out. But there is always a part of me that is trying to guess what your vibe is based on your seat choice. While most people are probably unaware of their surroundings, I am playing detective. It is all part of the library’s unspoken social game.
