On Nov. 19, Head Coach of Hamline Football, Chip Taylor formally stepped down from his role after a decade of coaching the program.
Taylor leaves behind a legacy marked not only by years of leadership and development but also by several individual academic achievements.
He led a program in which 20 players were given All-MIAC (Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) honors in his tenure, as well as prioritizing strong academic commitments outside of football with a team GPA above 3.0 for 20 out of 21 semesters.
Taylor joined the program in 2013, working under former Head Coach Chad Rogosheske when he took the role of being the defensive coordinator.
Following the departure of Rogosheske after the 2015 season, Taylor was promoted to head coach, which he held for ten seasons.
Taylor’s first season after taking the reins was a major success as the Pipers went 5-5 overall, marking the program’s strongest start since 1997.
Recent years were not quite as successful as the team finished up the 2025 season at 1-9 overall. This was the second time the Pipers finished a campaign 1–9 under Taylor, the first coming back in 2018.
A notable feat from Taylor was a seven game winning streak over the course of his tenure against Crown College, usually solidifying a strong start at the beginning of the season.
Hamline University Athletic Director Alex Focke has indicated that the university will immediately begin a national search for a new head coach to lead the next team in the 2026 season.
