#7 nationally-ranked Hamline women’s hockey was defeated by the #2 ranked Norwich Cadets today, 1–0. In what many thought would be a shootout, given the programs’ respective high-powered offenses, the name of the game was physicality and goaltending.
The only goal of the game came one minute in, where, after setting up shop in their offensive zone, Norwich sophomore forward Anna Lisac sent a shot past Hamline senior goalie Kendra Nordick.
Despite a slow first period offensively, the defense was able to hold off the Cadets. By the second period, Hamline’s offense was back in its preferred style of high-volume shot-taking. Madison Brunet, Norwich’s senior goalie, managed to send every shot back. Brunet fought off a Piper power play in each period, not including when Hamline pulled Nordick late in the third period on their final offensive efforts.
Norwich moves on to the Frozen Four, taking on Nazareth next week. Hamline enters the offseason after another season proving themselves as a national power, with undoubtedly their best season since the 2018-19 season’s NCAA DIII Championship Game appearance.
